(Review) Fluffy Egg: Sweet Sugary Goodness

And so another Easter has come and gone.  Between violently competitive Easter egg hunts with my sister (even though we're both twenty somethings), baskets full of chocolate, a snappy pair of Simon Pegg earrings, and a stand still traffic jam in which you put your car in park and devour the plate of cupcakes Mama Llama packed for you on your way home, this years Easter was eventful and slightly exhausting.  Upon coming home from my nearly 4 hour commute to my parents' house, I unpacked everything I needed for the next day and went straight to bed, face full of makeup and all, snoring the night away until my alarm blasted me awake at 6 in the morning for inventory.  

Easter's never been a big holiday for my family, but it's always been fun.  Memories of shiny black buckled shoes, white tights, floral dresses and straw hats always come to mind when I think of Easter as a kid.  Papa Bear would always hide the Easter eggs we colored the night before while Mama Llama filled our Easter baskets with sidewalk chalk and bubbles.  Dark chocolate for my sister and milk chocolate for me.  But after a few days of gorging on the stuff, you kind of get sick of it after a while.  Therefore I decided to indulge my infamous sweet tooth in a different way.  With a sweet pink bath!

 

 

If you're still heartbroken over the fact that Christmas has come and gone, along with every Snow Fairy scented product on the planet, have no fear!  Fluffy Egg has the same fragrance!  Invented in the days of Cosmetics to Go, Fluffy Egg was originally created because customers were requesting an Easter egg shaped bath bomb.  Mo Constantine, one of Lush's cofounders, refused to do it, but as the requests kept pouring in, she caved and created Fluffy Egg.  It was a huge hit and has been an Easter classic ever since, coming back year after year!  Despite getting many a box of Fluffy Egg, my store was barely able to hold onto it, selling out of the sweet pink bomb within days of receiving it and facing the wrath (well not wrath...more like minor annoyance) of customers wanting one of their own but coming in to find them gone.  Lucky me, I happened to snag two before they were cleaned off the shelves!

 

Fluffy Egg is quite a decent fizzer.  Not too fast, but not painfully slow to the point where your water is cold when you finally dip your tootsies in.  The Snow Fairy scent to me is one I've had a turbulent relationship with.  While the scent is similar from product to product, I find some variations to be more sweet and others to be more tart.  Fluffy Egg is one of those tart variations.  Anything too sweet and I start to get a headache. 

 

Bathing in Fluffy Egg is a nice and sweet experience.  With the vibrant pink color, I reveled in my girly side and the bright color and fragrance overall boosted my mood.  The fragrance, aptly named Candy Fluff, sat nicely on my skin and didn't smell like a box full of marshmallow peeps, which are the one Easter candy I truly despise.  And when I got out of my bath I felt refreshed, revitalized, soft as a fresh spring flower petal and as sweet as a freshly frosted cupcake (with rainbow sprinkles...otherwise it's not a true cupcake).  And if you didn't manage to snag a Fluffy Egg bath bomb, dry your tears!  MMM Melting Marshmallow Moment bath melt and Godmother bar soap have the same exact scent AND are sold year round! 

Overall, Fluffy Egg was a nice, simple and sweet smelling bath bomb.  It's a good one to crack out when I'm feeling extra girly and in the mood for something bright and sweet to soak in.  It's one of those scents I have to be in a certain mood to enjoy, but when I'm in that mood, I make sure to bask in its sugary sweet glory.  Though the turnout is a gorgeously vibrant spring pink, it's an easy bath bomb to cocktail with, and one I will definitely pick up again if it comes out for Easter next year!

(Review) Hoppity Poppity: Keeps Going and Going and Going

We're so close guys.  So close I can feel the pollen stuffing up my sinuses, the grass between my toes, and the sun streaming through my window at seven o'clock in the evening.  Yes my dears...spring is almost here!  And after a winter filled with drafty windows, obscene amounts of snow, and the wind hurting my face and turning my nose into a maraschino cherry, the tepid and sunny weather of spring is most welcome.  And of course, with the return of spring brings one of my favorite times of the year at Lush...and that would be Easter!

My store wasn't open for Easter last year, but we still got generous staff boxes full of Easter goodies.  And I remember being impatient and cracking the lid off of my staff box in my car, the fresh, citrusy aromas filling my car (and nose) with the reminder of spring.  Easter collections are always my favorite from Lush and when we previewed this year's collection on arguably one of the coldest nights of the year in our warm, cozy shop, I knew this year would be no exception.  Instead of citrusy scents like last year's collection, Lush seems to favor the grassy, earthy scents this year.  Very fresh, yet a bit heavy for spring and herbal, which surprised me and honestly worried me a bit.  But once we demoed this little guy during our training session, my worries fizzed away much like the bath bomb in the bowl!

 

Hoppity Poppity bath bomb was the first freshly picked Lush product I used out of my staff box.  This little guy is perfumed with a fresh new fragrance that cofounder Mark Constantine made for his sister Jo.  Which I find sweet, since my sister never makes me perfumes.  Anyways, the fragrant scent of lavender, lime oil, and violet leaf absolutes will soon be a part of the Volume 3 collection of Gorilla Perfumes!  Hoppity Poppity is also filled with popping candy, so you can watch this little guy hop, pop, and fizz around in the water!

 

Some of you may recall me saying around Christmas that I was skeptical of melting my Butterbear bath bomb, since he was just so cute and I couldn't bear (get it? BEAR?  I'll go now...sorry...) to watch him fizz away.  With Hoppity Poppity I didn't have that problem.  With memories of summer camp many eons ago involving a camp counselor, her new untrained pet rabbit, and said pet rabbit pooping everywhere, running around, and deciding that biting, scratching, and peeing on my legs was a fun rabbity thing to do, I tossed this bomb into the tub cackling maniacally with vengeance.  And my vengeance was as short lived as this bath bomb, since it was gone in the blink of an eye!  Hoppity Poppity is one fast fizzer, starting off as a barrage of white foam followed by loud pops and snaps from the popping candy, finally ending in a lightly lavender tinted fragrant bath.  Make no mistake, this bunny is small, but the scent is BIG.  It fragranced my entire apartment with a beautiful grassy scent with a slight undertone of citrus as to not smell too terribly heavy.  The scent of violets, lavender, and lime clung to the air like a perfumed wind as I sank into my hot bath.  If I'm being honest, this was one of the most grounding baths in a while.  The scent turned my limbs to jelly and my brain to mush.  After a week of training for my new floor leading position, leaving my other job, and overall being busier than rush hour traffic, that was something I most definitely needed.

Overall Hoppity Poppity was an extremely pleasant surprise that quite literally hopped out of my staff box.  The scent was beautiful and unique...something I've never really smelled before!  It's a super fast fizzer for those who don't want to wait for a bath bomb to fully dissolve, and is great for those who like an intense but calming scent.  My skin felt powder soft and smooth after emerging from my tub, and the only fault I could find with this bath bomb was that the color was a bit too light for my liking.  But overall, a great and relaxing bath bombs for those who are looking for new, unique scents and something to help them wind down and welcome the incoming spring weather!

(Review) Golden Egg: The Goose Didn't Lay this One

I've never been a timely person, hence why I'm reviewing an Easter product in June.  My store wasn't open for Easter, so I didn't get my Easter goodies until later, so I knew that when I got my box of goodies that I had to hold onto this baby for a good while.  But I've heard many things about the coveted Golden Egg.  I remember seeing people online trying to draw up swaps for a Golden Egg, offering any Lush item at all for that shimmery sweet smelling bomb.  People were still asking if we had it long after Easter had ended.  It's a highly sought after item, and after marinating in it for hours, I can definitely see why!

So I got a nice weekend off and the apartment to myself, and that was a special enough occasion for me.  So I busted open the little plastic baggy holding the coveted egg inside and tossed it into the tub.  Obviously if you don't like glitter, this bath bomb isn't for you.  The fine, shimmery coating immediately disperses when it hits the water, and doesn't release as much glitter as you'd think.

Is it just me or does Golden Egg look like a glittery potato?

Golden Egg is different from other bath bombs because it's coated with a bath melt layer.  The inspiration behind such a product was Cadbury Eggs, except with a hard inner layer and a creamy outer layer.  So an inside out Cadbury Egg, except without the chocolate and the urge to vomit after eating a half dozen or so.  It takes a long time to melt through that layer, slowly distributing a pale yellow shimmery oil until it gets to the bomb tucked inside, which promptly starts to fizz and rotate the egg like a spinning top. 

Golden Egg is made up of a bunch of super moisturizing ingredients, mainly olive oil and fair trade cocoa butter.  All of Lush's cocoa butter comes from Columbia, specifically from the Peace community in San Jose.  It's certified organic, fair trade, and deodorized so the scent isn't overpowering.  It's also used in the Therapy and Peace massage bars.  Golden Egg is also scented with the infamous Honey I Washed the Kids fragrance (also used in It's Raining Men shower gel) and I could definitely tell.  The only note that was missing was that salty note that makes HIWTK smell like salted caramel toffee.  So it just smelled like caramel toffee to me, which is fine (and delicious!).  Golden Egg also contains citrus scented oils like sweet wild orange and bergamot to cut through that sweet toffee scent and tone it down.

When the bath bomb had fully melted, I sank into my nice, sweet smelling bath.  Despite being completely frosted in shimmer, I found I wasn't sitting in a tub full of it.  I saw a nice amount of sparkle here and there, but it wasn't overwhelming.  The olive oil contained in the egg was made apparent, as the bath water looked like I was soaking in a tub full of it.  Amongst the glitter and creamy white froth, I saw oil deposits floating along the surface.  I soaked for a good long while, content with reading A Clash of Kings and listening to Futurama blasting in the next room, occasionally contemplating the craziness of Orange Is the New Black (how crazy was the second season?!).

When I got out of the tub, I was coated in oil.  Not heavily so, but enough to where I patted myself dry and rubbed the excess in so I wouldn't want for a moisturizer later on.  All the glitter sank to the bottom of the tub, but was quickly gone and down the drain when I turned the shower on.

Overall, this was a fantastic bath bomb.  I was super moisturized and sweet smelling all night and the morning after.  Honestly I didn't even need a moisturizer this morning after I got out of the shower!  It was THAT intensive.  So if you want a sparkly sweet treat and a tall glass of water for your skin, this is the right bath bomb for you!
